![]() “It’s a performance statement, and the potential is really broad.” “This is just the beginning,” the Alta Motors CEO told me. ![]() It’s hard to believe that anything this fun could be street legal! Beginners should be able to hop on and do slow figure eights without worrying about stalling, and those who want to kick things up at the track or on back roads should thoroughly enjoy themselves. I learned to ride on a Suzuki 250 many years ago, and I wish I had this bike back then. Hooked on that electric feelingįenigstein, a more experienced rider than myself, weaved in and out of traffic, but I had little trouble keeping up. ![]() Being that this was a supermoto, I could also see myself hopping curbs, though I refrained from doing so. On one wide open street, I got the front wheel up and I’m certain that passersby heard me whooping with joy inside my helmet. After dialing up the throttle map to level two, I did feel a difference in the powerband and engine braking. Traffic kept most of the Redshift’s power bottled up, but during brief clearings, I was able to push it. Pedestrians as well as other motorists were asking if the bikes were electric. One construction worker strode out into the middle of the street to discuss the bikes. Hot dog vendors, employees on their lunch breaks, and tourists stopped what they were doing to stare. In a city of millions who have seen it all, that’s no easy feat. Our bikes drew attention at every red light. The power is always there, and it came in handy when an errant bus drifted into my lane and I had to goose the throttle to speed past it. A gear reduction of 3.5:1 delivers 122 lb-ft at the counter shaft from zero rpm. The 30 kW Redshift motor weighs just 15 lbs and puts out 40 horsepower and 34 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheel. When I did hit bumps in the road, the supermoto absorbed the impact nicely. It was remarkably easy to steer the 275-pound bike around potholes, people, aggressive cabbies, and ubiquitous NYC dogs. Now I had moving and stationary obstacles to deal with. We turned off the highway and headed into the heart of the city. It was a unique sound, though I think the low volume would take some getting used to. I could hear the gearset meshing in the 14,000-rpm water-cooled motor and I could hear the chain. My first impressions included, “Damn, that’s fast,” and, “Damn, that’s quiet.” It wasn’t completely silent, however. We turned onto the highway and I gunned the throttle. ![]() It’s remarkably easy to steer the bike around potholes, people, and aggressive cabbies Low speed maneuvering is key for these types of bikes, and according to Fenigstein, you can keep both feet on the pegs at a pace slower than walking speed. The SM - short for supermoto - is lightweight and narrow, making it easy to ride. It cuts a striking profile, but form follows function. The Redshift SM is one of the company’s first products, and it makes a bold statement. It was then I got my first glimpse at the Redshift SM. My eyes were immediately drawn to the exotic metal, which included offerings from Japan, Germany, and the U.S., but after a few minutes, Alta Motors CEO and co-founder Marc Fenigstein glided in on a red and white bike. I walked into the Classic Car Club in Manhattan, where floor-to-ceiling garage doors opened to views of the Hudson River. The Redshift SM can do it all just don’t forget a backup batteryĪs a lifelong gearhead with an aversion to change, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I received an invitation from Alta Motors to try out one of their electric motorcycles. ![]() All the analysis and numbers will tell you they are the better team. When working in vector-based programs such as Illustrator, you can easily export a single vector logo to any vector or raster format as needed. Perhaps you’d like to change the logo color or rearrange the logo components. In addition to being scalable, vector logos are easily editable. Why your logo should be vectorĪ vector’s main advantage over its raster counterparts is its infinite scalability you can scale logos up or down without loss of resolution and quality. Files that end in AI, EPS, PDF or SVG typically contain vector graphics the document can be edited within Illustrator if the files end in EPS, AI or SVG. To tell if an image is a vector look at the file format. Raster-based programs such as Adobe Photoshop cannot produce vectors.Įlements such as icons, logos and typography are ideally designed with vectors to retain that crisp quality at various dimensions. These complex shapes and lines can be produced exclusively in vector-based programs, such as Adobe Illustrator. ![]() Due to a vector’s mathematical makeup, each path, line, or curve looks precise at any size. Vector graphics are comprised of formulaic curves. Files that end with PNG, JPG, TIFF, PSD or BMP are raster graphics. Raster graphics can only be scaled down to avoid heavy pixelation, which can seriously limit the application of your logo – what if you need it for a billboard? To truly find out if a logo is in raster or vector format, take a look at its file name. This “pixelation” is a key giveaway when figuring out whether an image is in a raster or vector format. As those pixels become larger, the edges and details become blurry and jagged. If you zoom in on a raster image, you’ll notice those pixels become more prevalent and defined. Raster-based graphics contain pixels that define the colors, edges of shapes, and details in images. Rasters are used typically in photography and on websites, while vector graphics are heavily used in branding and logos. Note that JPG images can’t have a transparent background it will always be a solid color. As a designer or marketer, it’s essential that you can distinguish between the features of raster and vector images. While JPG is not as flexible as EPS or useful as a PNG for logos, its small file size is ideal for helping ensure the website still loads quickly. JPG: Another raster type of graphic most often used for images and photos on the internet. It’s a popular choice for website logos because the see-through background means you can place it over any colored background. The main benefit of using a PNG is that you can have a transparent background (what’s known as a transparent logo), and is generally of a higher quality than a JPG. PNG: A popular raster image type, often used for general marketing. You’ll have no problems using a logo in this format for your advertising needs, both online and offline. ![]() Let’s take a look at the most popular ones:ĮPS: This is a vector type of graphic used for illustrations, texts, and of course, logos! Because it’s a vector type, you can easily edit it and resize it. There’s more than just one kind of vector file and raster file, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses, depending on what you’re using it for. Let’s look at what a logo vector is and how it compares to similar types of files. The University Block W logo and the University wordmark must appear in the UW color palette only. Vector logos are preferred by the majority of designers and marketing companies over any other kind of file. The most important file type for your logo is a vector. Do you know why it’s so important? Because your logo could be the best in the world, but if it’s in the wrong file type, it won’t be legible. Yep, you read that right, the file type of your logo. It means you care about small details and are invested in your business.Īnd, the many elements that go into a logo affect how it performs-the color scheme, the images, the typography, the layout, and even your file type. In other words, a well-designed logo speaks volumes about your brand. It’s a visual representation of your brand, it conveys a message about who you are, it catches your audience’s eyes, and it allows them to recognize you at a glance.Ī logo also helps to create trust between your brand and your customers, which ultimately builds your credibility. Most home gardeners will propagate it from cuttings (see the link with the online edition for growing from seed). Stem cuttings and seed can be used to propagate Stapelia. Use care not to overwater Stapelia as it can cause root rot. Plant rooted cuttings into the soil mix and water until water drains from the hole in the pot. This can be mixed at home using two parts washed sand and one part mineral soil (weed free soil from outdoors). The potting mix should be appropriate for succulents and cactus. I keep mine indoors year round in a bright, sunny location. This pot should easily moveable avoid freezing temperatures. South African succulent genera readers may be familiar with are: Sedum, Aloe, Euphorbia, Crassula, and Kalanchoe. It is quite interesting these plants independently evolved similar characteristics even though they are found on opposite ends og the planet. Others form rosettes similar to Yucca and Agave.
